What To Write About Today?

This is what I hate about blogging, you have to come up with something to write about.  I mean, when there haven’t been any meets or anything of particular interest at practice, what do I write about? There is the MSTCA meet and the Hartford Public Schools meet tomorrow, but only the older guys are going to that, and I don’t want to think about that, because my day is going to suck tomorrow, and I don’t want to think of something that is more enjoyable, because then that’s all I’ll think about, and it will suck more (metaphorical light bulb goes on in my head).

So, I guess I can tell you about my crap day tomorrow.  First, we have to leave at 9:00 AM to go to my cousin’s First Communion up in NH.  That is going to suck.  I mean, I am a pretty religious guy, but I’d much rather go with my dad to the track meet.  Oh, so then, at 7:00, we have to come back down here to go to my sister’s play/musical/concert/I don’t know what the hell it is, which is also going to suck.  So, yeah, someone shoot me, please.  Thank you.

Now I have to think of more stuff to ramble on about… ummmmm… oh yeah.  I have to choose what I would like to run in the league championship meet, and I have no freakin’ clue.  I thought that is what the coaches were there for, to make these tough decisions for me.  Speaking of coaches decisions, I might be able to run in a “young people” DMR at the Class A MA Relay Meet next Saturday.  I would love to do that, as I would have a chance to run the 1200, which is something I have wanted to do all year.  That would be pretty exciting if I am able to go to that.

So, anyway, I guess I’ll talk about the dual meet at Catholic Memorial on Tuesday.  If we win, we’ll be in a three way tie for first place in the Catholic Conference with BC High and Xaverian.  Why, you ask?  Well, we beat Xaverian, BC High beat us, and Xaverian beat BC High.  It took me a while to figure that out, but that means we have kinda all beaten each other.  We beat the team who beat us, but the team we beat beat the team we lost to, so it all evens out.  So, yeah, I think one of us is racing Malden Catholic, which will be an easy win, and the other team has a bye week, so assuming we all win (or don’t run), the tie stands.  Guess what that means?  It would all come down to the Catholic Conference Classic, which would be pretty intense.

That’s all I have to say.

Talk at ‘ya later.

FINALLY!

I think that is a pretty good way to make you a little more interested in what I am about to write.  Doesn’t give away too much information, but you are probably thinking “What finally happened?”  I feel so smart (that is, until one of my teammates tells me that I sound like an idiot when I write in my blog).  So, anyway, yesterday we had a meet in Malden Catholic.  I broke five minutes in the mile for the first time yesterday!  Yup, after three consecutive miles at 5:00.xx, I finally broke it yesterday with a time of 4:55.xx.  Uh, yeah.  I was so excited about writing this post, and now I have nothing else to say…

Uhhh, yeah, so, we won the meet by a wide margin (I’m not even going to guess on the exact score), even though our top distance guys didn’t even run.  This gave a nice opportunity to some of us younger guys.  The fab four looked good, with a 4:51 (?) and 4:5 something below 5 and above 1 in the mile, a 2:11 (?) in the 800, and a 11:43 (?) in the two mile, and I think all of those are PRs.  So, yeah, it was a really good day for us.  I think we won every running event (don’t quote me on that), and I have no clue about the field, although I know we did well.

Anyway, I have no idea what else I should say.  The MSTCA (MA Track Coaches Assoc.) meet is on Saturday, but none of us freshmen will be going to that…  Ummm… I know I am forgetting something that I am supposed to mention…

Whatever.  So, yeah, I broke five minutes in the mile, so MC’s track is now my favorite track.  I actually liked it, because it was only 375 meters, so we had to start the race farther back than normal, and the last lap was shorter than normal, which was a good feeling.  I felt good yesterday, just like I did on Sunday at the Catholic Schools Invite (see below).

Ohhhhhh!  I just remembered what else I was going to say.  One of the freshmen on the team who was in the two mile scored in the meet yesterday, before on of the fab four (the one who runs the 800) has scored in a meet (it should be mentioned there were only three people in the two mile and only the top three score in a dual meet).  Ahhhhh.  Now I feel like I can sign off without feeling like I have forgotten anything!  Thank goodness.

Small Mistake, Catholic HS Invite

Yeah, so I showed off my idiocy the other day, as I accidentally deleted my old blog (http://averagehstrackguy.wordpress.com) and so I had to create a new one. So, yeah, welcome to the new version. I hope you enjoy my idiocy (my teammates tell me that is why they enjoy reading my blog… go figure).

Okay, so today was the Catholic High School Invite in Attleboro, MA. It was pouring up here when we left the school, but it wasn’t too bad down in Attleboro (although it WAS a little chilly). As for me, I ran in the two mile. I took fifth place with a time of 10:58, which goes to show you how weak the field was. Although WE brought some of our better young guys (the fab four/five/six/ I have no freakin’ clue what I am going to do about that), everyone else seemed to neglect the two mile. La Salle’s two best two milers, who both run sub 10s according to their seedings, were late scratches. The good news is that because of that, we took second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh. The two fab four guys in the two mile ran a 10:43 and a 10:47. Both of those are PRs for them, which is great for us.

IDIOCY OF ME ALERT- Just another example comin’ at ‘ya.  So, as we were getting ready for the two mile, and I took my hip number.  I peel it off, stick it on, and line up in the ninth position.  Everyone starts saying “where’s number six?”.  I’m looking around, and some kid comes up and says, “I’m number nine” to the official.  Guess who’s at fault?  Yup, me.  Naturally, I put my number on upside down, and I was number six.  I was kind of afraid I was going to be yelled at, but I admitted my mistake, and the starter didn’t care.  But, if you were there and wondering why the start of the two mile was delayed, that was me.

As for the other two parts of the fab four, they did not fare AS WELL. One of them ran okay, and the other… well… he didn’t. I’ll go for the good news first. Our top freshman 800 guy ran a 2:14, which I don’t think is a PR (although I am sure Mr. 10:43 will correct me… know-it-all). As for the one who ran the mile, he didn’t look good. He ran a 5:05, about 10 seconds off his PR of 4:55ish. He has been struggling in the mile lately, although he looked good in his first two mile on Wednesday, with a 10:45. We’ll see how goes with him, but he does have pressure on him, in his defense. After his 4:55, there was TALK about him qualifying for states. The kid is only a freshman! Jeez, give him a (insert expletive here) break.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot the team as a whole paragraph (insert laughter from teammates during school tomorrow here). We won the meet, which is pretty awesome, especially considering the contributions from the younger guys. The older guys dominated in the mile (four of the top six), the 400 (three of the top six), 800 (two of six), intermediate hurdles (two of six), 200 (two of six), 100 (two of five/three of six, we had a scratch going into the finals…), triple jump (two of six), discus (two-six), javelin (two-six), shot put (two-six), 4X100 (winners), 4X400 (two-six), and 4X800 (winners). Of course, there are some young guys thrown in there, so it isn’t ALL older guys. We beat Bishop Feehan, 183-161. For full results, click here
