I must say, I am a dang good rhymer. I mean, look at that rhyme in the title (assuming you read MA as a “M”, and then and “A”). Oh right, so you want to know why I haven’t posted in almost two weeks… well, I have just been lazy. Story of my life right there. Oh, so now you want an update since that time. Well, basically, I sucked, one of the fab four absolutely tore up that freakin’ track in the same race, everyone else did all right, then I came in yesterday and did something which I don’t even know the meaning of and I don’t know what half the guys on the team ran! I’m assuming you didn’t follow that, so I’ll try to clear it up.
All right. On Tuesday, we went down to Catholic Memorial for the last dual meet of the year. If we won, which was inevitable, we would clinch at least a three way tie for top dog in the five team Conference we run in. Needless to say, we dominated. But, that is not the important part. I ran the two mile, and dropped back down below 11:00 to 11:02 (damn I hate those after school meets). I mean, I was tired (I don’t get any sleep during the week… damn HW), but I can’t use that as an excuse. I sucked. Period. But, mister fast cross country I’m too cool to do winter track because I like hockey more even though I’m a hell of a lot better at running guy was unbelievable. He ran 10:27 in the two mile, which is a 17 second PR for him (I think). As for everyone else, well, uh, I forget.
ANYWAY, then we had the MSTCA Relays yesterday. It was extremely exciting for me to go to a meet of that magnitude (coach described it as the best indication of the best overall TEAM in the state). We had all the fab four go, plus me, a wicked good frosh shot putter and a pretty damn good frosh sprinter. Two of them ran the 4X1 Mile “B” Team, one of those two doubled back (Mr. I’m too good for winter track), four of us ran in the DMR (including me, sprint frosh, 800 frosh and fab four # something). We ran an 11:40, which was good for 15th out of 22, which is damn good for a bunch of freshmen in a non- Frosh/Soph race at that meet. In case you are track retarded, a DMR is a 1200, 400, 800, and 1600 in that order. I ran a 3:34 in the 1200, Mr. Sprinter ran 56.xx in the 400, Mr. 800 ran a 2:16, and Fab Four guy ran x:xx.xx (I don’t know and don’t feel like doing the math).
The thing about this as it pertains to me is I have no clue if this is very good. No-one really knows what a good 1200 time is because it is so weird. Coach said that I should be happy with a 3:35, so I guess I should be satisfied with that. I have no clue what the guys in the other relays did, so I am not even going to try, because then everyone would get P’d off at me (although they will anyway because I DIDN’T post the times).
So, the League Championship is this Saturday, and I guess that will break the three way tie for first place. It will be between us, BC High, and Xaverian Bros. I don’t know what I am going to be running that day, but I bet Mr. Hockey will be running the varsity two mile after his performance on Tuesday (much to his dismay). I do wish they ran an open 1200, though. I mean, they have a one lap race, a two lap race, and a four lap race. Why don’t they have a three lap race? This is the question that will continue to confound me for the rest of my track career.
So, the season is coming to an end for us freshmen (unless someone has a breakthrough on Saturday to make the state meet). It should be an interesting week and hopefully we can all end the season on a high note!
